An Armoured Simplex with curtains over the door openings pulls a train of slate wagons through Tan-y-Graig station. The loco and wagons were all built from MSM kits.

This is a model of Tasmania's North-East Dundas Tramway locomotive K1 - the first Beyer-Garratt. The model is built to 5.5mm scale (1/55) and is completely scratchbuilt, apart from the wheels, gears and motor. The loco is built mainly from Plastikard with a few metal fittings, such as dome and funnel. First attempts at motorising had the motor in the rear engine also driving the front engine with disasterous results. The mechanism was rebuilt with a conventional drive to the rear engine only. This has limited the power but proved adequate. This model is beginning to show it's age, as it was built over thirty years ago.
-
This is not the current MSM 5.5mm scale kit of the Talyllyn Railway's locomotive 'Dolgoch', but an original GEM model from forty years ago. It has been provided with some of the fittings from the MSM kit, been repainted and decorated with Blackham transfers. Although slightly stretched to accommodate the mechanism, this is still a basically good model of the locomotive, and it still runs well.

Malcolm's NGG16 is completely scratchbuilt apart from wheels, gears and motor.
-
The model is built mainly from Plastikard but incorporates a number of resin cast fittings, made before Malcolm moved into white-metal casting, as well as fittings made from metal, usually brass. All of the plumbing is made from various diameters of copper, brass or steel wire or rod.

The locomotive is driven on the rear engine only but this has proved to be adequate for the Llugwy Valley Railway.
